This is an excellent course which teaches the techniques and skills to be able to deliver Manual Handling in the workplace. Over one third of workplace absenteeism is due to people hurting themselves by incorrect manual handling and is the cause of significant pain and suffering to individuals. These ‘muscular-skeletal’ injuries are the cause of much absenteeism which is very costly for organisations and our health service. If we can reduce the likelihood of injury, this would go a long way to cut those costs.
This course is delivered over five consecutive days and is endorsed by the ILM. The first three days is dedicated to ‘train the trainer’ where delegates learn skills and techniques necessary to deliver competent and confident training in the workplace. Not just manual handling, but tool box talks, team meetings and much more. The final two days of the course is dedicated to an in depth study of manual handing.
Employers have a legal duty to provide information, instruction and training to employees and to protect them ‘so far as is reasonably practicable’ from ‘reasonably foreseeable’ risks. Employees have a legal duty to ‘take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who could be affect by their acts and omissions’ By providing manual handling training and keeping it refreshed will be a giant step to reducing the risk of manual handling injuries. Having someone in-house trained to deliver this training is a cost effective option.
